Located within this page are numerous examples of meaningful and engaging lesson plans and unit plans that I have spent time creating throughout my years in the field.
Area and Perimeter: Hands on Learning
This lesson presents an open-ended activity to fourth grade students; facilitating higher-level thinking. These tasks will force students to reflect upon the mathematical processes/ideas involved in solving story-problems; encouraging metacognitive, high-level thinking processes. Students will walk away with an appreciation for the magnitude to which, math influences their daily lives and experiences.
One Hen: Making a Difference
This is a two day lesson that can easily be modified into an entire unit. The lesson focuses on poverty alleviation and the importance of family/community and hard work. This lesson can be easily integrated with any core subject.

Sun, Moon, Earth: Collaboration
This is a two day lesson concerning the motion of the sun, moon, and earth. THis lesson facilitates student interaction through role-play, whole and small group discussion, and peer work.
Collecting Data: High-level Task
This is a fourth grade unit plan that incorporates real-world experiences with mathematical concepts. Students practiced collecting data and organizing it using a variety of graphs.
Literature Circles: Differentiation
This is a unit to be used at the beginning of the year in order to establish the foundation for a literature circle/book club framework. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to think critically, and work cooperatively in small groups. Utilizing the literature cirlce framework presents wonderful opportunities for differentiation.
